I bought a Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter from the Apple shop in order to transfer data speedily from. I have always found their drivers to be temperamental, to say the least, under the best. Logic Pro 10.3, OS X 10.13.3. My (fairly old) MOTU 828 or even my more portable (but even older) M-Audio 410.
At the base of Mac OS X is the Mach Kernel, and within the kernel are the drivers for all the hardware of the Mac. Included in these drivers are the FireWire drivers.

It looks like the drivers for the existing drivers for Firewire 410 work for El Capitan, but can't be enabled because they are not cryptographically signed. It should be a fairly straightforward process to get these drivers signed, and shouldn't require any additional software development. Mactex catalina.

DOWNLOADED SOFTWARE

If you believe that the downloading process was faulty, you may contact Yamaha, and Yamaha shall permit you to re-download the SOFTWARE, provided that you first destroy any copies or partial copies of the SOFTWARE that you obtained through your previous download attempt. This permission to re-download shall not limit in any manner the disclaimer of warranty set forth in Section 5 below.

DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTY ON SOFTWARE

Yamaha is not responsible in any way for the THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE or your use thereof.
